It’s kind of hard to say, based on the Big Year footage shown so far. Some of the physical comedy bits (like Black’s pratfalls) and glimpses of meaningful conversations between the characters comes off less as genuinely hilarious and touching and more like the sort of over-the-top scenes you’d expect to see in a generic sitcom. Heck, the bit where Black wishes that a blizzard won’t happen – followed immediately by (guess what) a snow storm – almost feels like it should have a laugh track accompanying it.
Best to not dismiss Big Year just yet, though. You might remember that the trailers for Frankel’s adaptation of Marley & Me likewise teased a movie full of wacky comedy antics – and yet the final product was much more serious in tone that we’d all been led to believe. If not for anything else, the upcoming movie The Big Year should be entertaining just because it has a fantastic cast supporting it. It’s about three guys, each with a separate crisis — mid-life, work-life and no-life — that compete with each other in everything they do. The trailer isn’t anything special; it presents the basic tropes of a movie that focuses on people discovering themselves and little else. Decades-old found footage from NASA’s abandoned Apollo 18 mission, where two American astronauts were sent on a secret expedition, reveals the reason the U.S. has never returned to the moon.
Apollo 18 is an upcoming 2011 American science fiction horror film directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego and produced by Timur Bekmambetov. The film’s premise is that the officially canceled Apollo 18 mission was actually launched in December 1974 but never returned, and as a result the United States has never launched another expedition to the Moon. The film is shot in a mockumentary found-footage style, supposedly of the lost footage of the Apollo 18 mission that was only recently discovered. The film will be Lopez-Gallego’s first English-language film.
After various release date changes, the film is currently scheduled to be released on September 2, 2011
Apollo 18 is a found-footage style film set in December 1974, about a post-Apollo 17 mission to the Moon that takes on a premise of why NASA discontinued the Apollo Moon missions. The plot involves a government coverup of theApollo 18 mission after parasitic lifeforms on the Moon discovered the crew and began to attack them. Much of the back-story remains unknown; however, the movie posters in English indicate the KGB’s role in Soviet lunar conspiracy and the Russian movie posters show inscriptions in English suggesting an American government cover up in a lunar conspiracy.[3][4] In the trailer, an American astronaut discovers the foot prints made by the Sovietcosmonaut and also found a helmet, a dead cosmonaut five finger shoes , and a Soviet LK Lander on the lunar surface.

Needless to say I laughed when I read that he was trying to sell us on an Apollo 18 mission that encountered an alien life form on the Moon that was secretly recorded and kept under wraps until now. But that does not stop some of you from believing that not only did Apollo 18 happen but so did Apollo 19 and Apollo 20 with some pretty shocking outcomes.
Just from watching the trailer for Apollo 18 it is hard to believe it is not Hollywood produced. Frankly there are scenes in JJ Abrams Cloverfield that looked more plausible then this new Apollo 18 movie.
That said in doing some looking it seems that there is a large group of believers who believe full heartedly that something strange did happen on the moon and that there is good reason we have never returned to the lunar planet. Most of this revolves around footage from Apollo 20 and interviews by William Rutledge one of the astronauts who now lives in Africa who not only went to the moon but claims to have entered a crashed alien craft and recovered an alien that has been called the Mona Lisa EBE.

By his own admission, John Abraham is a changed man. He is talking more, dancing more and is certainly more visible than ever before. With a slate of films lined up in the New Year, Bollywood’s quintessential handsome hunk hopes to find “inspired living”.
“I think I have let myself go. I have opened up and let my hair down gradually. So the change is evident, both in my personal as well as professional life,” John told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.
The 38-year-old who split from his girlfriend of eight years, actress Bipasha Basu, earlier this year, was quite reticent earlier. But thanks to movie promotions, which required him to be in the limelight as well as meet and greet fans and mediapersons, John has come out of his shell.
This year has been significant for John as he had three releases – “7 Khoon Maaf”, “Force” and “Desi Boyz”. If “7 Khoon Maaf” won critical appreciation, the other two faired well at the box office. In fact, “Force” is being considered one of John’s biggest releases so far in his eight-year-old acting career, which kickstarted with “Jism”.
“I am happy. This is the best phase of my career so far. But you never know how long this lasts! With my present slate of films cheap five fingers , I can look forward to ups and downs, but I would like to believe that I have a safe set of projects in my kitty,” said John.
His visibility on screen and off screen will bump up next year thanks to his long line-up of films – “I, Me Aur Main”, “Housefull 2″, “Race 2″ and “Shootout At Wadala”.

I have not even read the script yet; so I can take a decision only once I do that,” said John, who might feature alongside Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone if he is offered and accepts “Jism 2″.
But for now, he wants to concentrate on the projects in hand, so that he can achieve “inspired living”, which also happens to be the essence behind home appliances and consumer electronics brand, Haier, of which he is a brand ambassador.
“Inspired living to me is self-actualisation…it is beyond the physiological needs of people. I would like to believe that I lead an inspired life. But I guess with the kind of lifestyle I lead, it’s a little far beyond for me to achieve. But every day, I am trying to attain it,” said the actor.
In sync with Haier’s green initiative, Eco Life, John believes it is important to use technology in an eco-friendly way.
“Technology is a major part of everyone’s life these days. I like to lead a simple and basic life, but there’s no escaping from technology. You can’t run away from it…not even if you miss the magic of handwritten letters. But I feel if one has to use technology, they should do it in a way that supports eco-lifestyle,” he said.

Despite a majority of film fans admitting their distaste for films in 3D, converted or shot prior, film studios continue to push 3D down the throats of those loyal fans that keep them in business.

Director Marc Webb did explain at Comic-Con that the Amazing Spider-Man was not just shot in 3D, but designed to make use of this ‘new’ format so that film goers could feel as though they’re swinging through the streets with their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. We still fear that a majority of story will be lost because a lot of time and most likely loads of the production budget will be spent(wasted) making 3D shots instead of creating a deeper, more intriguing story or more impressive and immersive sets that would help the actors bring a better performance to the screen..

Just because William Shakespeare wrote a play it doesn’t mean it should be adapted into a film. And just because you’ve decided to adapt a Shakespeare play into a film doesn’t mean you should feature your actors standing around reading Shakespeare’s lines word by word. Yet, that’s exactly what Ralph Fiennes has done with Coriolanus, a film”adaptation” of a lesser known Shakespeare play with some of the best line-reading you will see all year, but wow is it a confused bore.Sold as a modern day adaptation, this is anything but. Fiennes and screenwriter John Logan have simply updated the technology and architecture and very little actual adapting has been done. The story is still the same except instead of 17th century Roman armaments, battles are fought with machine guns, rocket launchers and tanks as war is waged between the Romans and the Volsces. In short, there is very little that is “modern” about this story which creates a highly confused storyline, not that there is much of a story to begin with.Fiennes stars as the legendary Roman general Caius Martius ‘Coriolanus’, a fearsome soldier who fights more for pride and the love of battle than for the Roman people he must hope to impress in order to gain the coveted seat of Consul. Pushed by his ambitious mother Volumnia (Vanessa Redgrave) and highly decorated for his efforts in battle, the government is ready to appoint him, but the people hollister , led by two dissenting senators, refuse to embrace such a decision and banish him from Rome.
Exiled, Coriolanus leaves his mother, wife (Jessica Chastain) and son and seeks a meeting with his long-standing enemy and leader of the Volsces army, Tullus Aufidius (Gerard Butler), with whom he aims to fight side-by-side and take revenge on the city that turned its back on him.There is absolutely no reason to try to sell this as a modern story, nothing about it is modern as any meaningful parallels to today are non-existent. As far as the presentationis concerned, Fiennes shows he has two modes as a director; he can either present a talking head reading Shakespeare with accomplished intensity or scenes of war accompanied by Ilan Eshkeri’s bombastic score rendering each battle break the same as the last as bullets are fired, bombs explode and the scene is broken up between the battlefield and cuts to Fidelis TV coverage.It’s quite obvious when the film is going to take a break for an action scene as Eshkeri pounds the drums and the scan lines of a TV presentation appear on the screen. Buh, buh, bum, dum, dum BOOM! And as impressive as Fiennes’ cast can read Shakespeare the stoppage in the film’s momentum as they read their lengthy passages is unbearable.
Plenty of praise has been doted on Vanessa Redgrave as Coriolanus’ mother Volumnia and any performance praise in this film is largely due to who gets the best lines to read because everyone involved is a talented actor. Redgrave’s character, however, is just one of the story’s many conundrums as she’ll be seen at one moment chastising the men that exiled her son and in another, chastising her son with a speech I began tuning out almost as soon as she started.And as far as line-reading goes, Fiennes deserves just as much praise himself, particularly for his final speech, which is read with a menacing inflection, but that’s all it is, lines. Everyone gets their moment to banter the Bard, but to expect the audience will actually care for these wordy passages in their entirety is a gross overestimation.Fiennes didn’t bite off more than he could chew with his decision to make Coriolanus his directorial debut, he is simply chewing on too little. There isn’t enough here, at least not enough to make a solid film, but that’s exactly the issue. If you’re going to adapt a Shakespearean play into a modern age story, then adapt it! Don’t just take the play, use the same words and scenes, put on updated clothes and stand around in updated architecture. That’s just confusing the point and as proven here, results in a film destined for death by boredom.

The film follows Corinne through her interactions with God, a lot of time passing between each scene; we see her losing her virginity to Ethan, getting married, them having a baby and going on the road until something happens that brings them together with the church. Corinne is perfectly happy raising a family in that environment, though she’s often left feeling unfulfilled by her inability to feel God’s presence in her life.
Every once in a while, material comes along that’s perfectly matched to a filmmaker or an actor and in this case, they’re one and the same. Most moviegoers will already be well aware what a supremely talented actress Vera Farmiga is and what she’s capable of even in her weaker films. With “Higher Ground,” she delivers on two levels, not only in her own portrayal of the character but also how she constructs Corrine’s world and fills it with believable characters.
The latter involves assembling a solid cast of actors, many playing against what we normally see them do, and Farmiga pulling great performances out of all of them. The most impressive performance comes from Joshua Leonard, who plays Corinne’s husband Ethan for the majority of the film. Leonard has turned into a terrific actor, but Farmiga has cast him in a role that allows him to branch out from playing semi-comic characters, and their pairing works surprisingly well.
Even so, the film’s true breakout stars is Famiga’s own sister Taissa Farmiga, who plays the younger Corinne so beautifully that the film never suffers during the substantial amount of time before the main star shows up. Then there’s Dagamara Dominczyk as Corinne’s best friend Annika, who helps her get through the difficulties of the religious environment and allows her to have fun until something happens to her, too. The main cast is rounded out by Donna Murphy and John Hawkes as Corrine’s mother and father who mostly appear at the beginning of the film, then disappear for a good 90 minutes only to return for a nice family reunion in the last act. While “Higher Ground” might not seem like a particularly difficult film to direct with a relatively small but solid cast and nothing very flashy, once you realize what’s involved with realistically creating someone’s entire life and all its many facets, it’s quite impressive. Because so much time passes in the film and between each scene, every character including Farmiga herself has an entirely different look from one scene to the next–the hair, make-up and costume departments really are put through their paces–plus she had to have many young actors appearing for just one scene each as Corrine’s kids at different ages in her life. Normally, one would expect material like this to be done entirely in a dramatic manner and be a lot more serious and darker than it actually is. Throughout Corinne’s story, Farmiga finds ways of keeping it light and entertaining-Dominczyk helps a lot in this respect-without ever making it feel like she’s poking fun or criticizing faith or religion, being quite respectful to anyone in the audience who may follow God themselves.
